Originally composed for piano and violoncello in 1941, the 13 short variations are now available in an arrangement for bassoon and chamber orchestra. This piece by Paul Hindemith is a musical setting of a well-known Old English children’s song about the wedding of a frog and a mouse. Each of the cheerful variations in classical style is allocated to a rhyming couplet from the song.
