Description
This piece, also known as the Children’s Symphony in C Major, was originally titled Berchtolsgader-Musik and is based on Leopold Mozart’s Cassatio ex G, with some of its movements being identical to the Kinder-Symphonie.
The symphony is unique because it incorporates unusual instruments such as a cuckoo, quail, and other wooden instruments that were traditionally made in the Berchtesgadener region. These instruments were originally children’s toys but were integrated into the symphony to create a playful and lively sound. Over time, these instruments have been replaced with flutes, whistles, rattles, and bells in modern performances.
