Description
Single Piano Score
Kreisleriana, Op. 16 by Robert Schumann is a set of eight movements for solo piano, composed in 1838 and later revised in 1850. The work is inspired by Johannes Kreisler, a fictional character created by E.T.A. Hoffmann, known for his eccentric and passionate nature.
The first movement, “Äußerst bewegt” (Extremely animated), is in D minor and reflects Schumann’s contrasting musical personas—Florestan (impulsive) and Eusebius (dreamy). The entire composition is considered one of Schumann’s finest piano works, dedicated to Frédéric Chopin, though Chopin reportedly only commented on the title page design.
