William Byrd, Consort Music places Byrd’s 33 surviving consort pieces in context, exploring the historical background to their composition and his search for structures to support them. Through playing Byrd’s fantasias over many years, Anne Martin became interested in the development of English consort music in the sixteenth century and Byrd’s position in this. Her book is a reworking of her doctoral thesis completed at the University of Aberdeen in 2020.
